Unleashing Your ADHD Superpowers: A Five-Week Art Journaling Journey to Coping and Creativity.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can pose significant challenges in one's life, from struggles with focus and organization to heightened impulsivity. However, amidst these obstacles lies a unique opportunity for self-discovery and harnessing what some might perceive as weaknesses into extraordinary strengths. Embarking on a five-week journey of self-exploration and creativity, I delved into coping mechanisms and the untapped potential residing within my ADHD superpowers.
Embracing the Journey
Each week of my art journaling experience was dedicated to tackling different coping strategies aimed at alleviating the negative impacts of ADHD on my daily life. Armed with an array of visual art mediums and various types of paper, I embarked on a creative process designed to not only manage my symptoms but also unearth the hidden gems within my neurodiversity.
Week One: Preparation is Key
As I set out on this transformative expedition, I emphasized the importance of preparation. Preparing supplies and creating an environment conducive to artistic expression laid the foundation for my creative endeavors. With a clear space and mind, I was ready to unlock the potential of my ADHD superpowers.

Journal Entry: Over-shined
Adult ADHD diagnosis is a mile-long list of new words, symptoms, labels, and medications. None of it makes sense. Who even has the energy to try to understand?
Daily elbowing my way through life while jumping, dodging, evading, ducking, and often getting knocked over by the ever-existing list of new words, symptoms, labels, and medications.
Sparkle here, glitter there, paper, paint, and IDEAS everywhere. Creating art is bigger, brighter, and bolder, due to the new words, symptoms, labels, and medications.
Turning the overwhelm of adult ADHD into opportunities to focus on the silver lining, unexpected glimmers, shiny new ideas. New words, symptoms, labels, medications, all waiting to be dipped in shiny colors of silver and gold.
Week Two: The Power of Mindful Practices
Incorporating mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing and soothing music into my creative routine proved invaluable. These practices not only calmed the whirlwind of thoughts often associated with ADHD but also served as anchors grounding me in the present moment.

Journal Entry: Get up & Go
Worn down by ADHD symptoms my life comes to a screeching halt. Properly medicated I have the energy, motivation, focus, strength, calmness, positivity, and excitement, to GET UP & GO.
Week Three: Nurturing Creativity Through Exploration
Engaging in free association idea generating and conducting reference image research expanded the boundaries of my creativity. By exploring new concepts and allowing my imagination to roam freely, I tapped into a wellspring of inspiration that transcended the limitations imposed by ADHD.

Journal Entry: Pushing Back
Relax, breath, take a moment,
Appreciate, nurture, grow,
Develop, transform, escape.
The overwhelm, insecurity, and frustration, of ADHD darkness is kept at bay.
Week Four: Sketching the Seeds of Innovation
The process of sketching ideas acted as a bridge between imagination and manifestation. Transforming abstract thoughts into tangible visuals empowered me to channel my unique perspective and insights into my art.

Journal Entry: Resilientree
-My physical roots drink in yoga, walking, and resting.
-My mental roots absorb new interests, and reading for personal development and entertainment, and maintaining a positive mindset.
-My creative roots taps into expressing my ideas and feelings and provide stress relief.
-My spiritual roots are filled through belief in God and His plan for my life.
-My social roots are quenched through loving family interaction, the support of friends, and serving others.
A variety of self-care activities help to strengthen my trunk while still providing me with flexibility so I don’t break.
My well-nourished leaves of life activities, obstacles, and struggles with ADHD may be blown by the wind but maintain their attachment. Arriving at the end of the day, thankful and thriving, and able to embrace the beauty in life.
Week Five: Creating and Reflecting
As I ventured into the final stage of my art journaling journey, art creation became a medium through which I conveyed my innermost thoughts and emotions. Through the act of creation, I not only expressed myself visually but also delved deeper into the nuances of my ADHD experience.

Journal Entry: Looking for the Glimmers
What I focus on I see more of. The more I deal with the multiple different symptoms of ADHD
the more I must look for the moments of:
BEAUTY
PEACE
CALM
REST
CONFIDENCE
ACHIEVEMENTS
BLESSINGS
All of which have the capability to shine through.
A Path to Self-Discovery
